যেহেতু মুসলিম বিবাহ ও তালাক রেজিষ্ট্রীকরণ সম্পর্কিত আইন একীকরণ ও সংশোধন করা সমীচীন; সেহেতু উহা এতদ্বারা নিম্নরূপ বিধিবদ্ধ করা হইলঃ

১। সংক্ষিপ্ত শিরোণাম ও প্রয়োগ :

(১) এই আইন মুসলিম বিবাহ ও তালাক (রেজিষ্ট্রীকরণ) আইন, ১ঌ৭৪ বলিয়া অভিহিত করা যাইতে পারে।
(২) বাংলাদেশের সকল মুসলিম নাগরিকদের উপর যেখানেই তাহারা থাকুক না কেন, ইহা প্রযোজ্য হইবে।

২। সংজ্ঞা সমূহ : এই আইনে যদি বিষয়ে বা প্রসঙ্গে পরিপন্থী কোন কিছু না থাকে তাহা হইলেঃ-

(ক) মহা-নিবন্ধন পরিদর্শক (ইন্সপেক্টর জেনারেল অব রেজিষ্ট্রশন) ও নিবন্ধক (রেজিষ্টার) বলিতে যথাক্রমে ১ঌ০৮ সনের রেজিষ্ট্রীকরণ আইনের (১৯০৮ সনের ১৬) অধীনে ঐরূপ পদনামযুক্ত ও নিযুক্ত অফিসারদেরকে
